UNBOUND is a thought partner for higher education change agents who dare to reimagine what’s possible. We help educators and leaders break free from traditional constraints, fostering innovation, equity, and community to transform how higher education serves learners and society.
Currently, there are three major categories of content on the Unbound platform. There are posts that contextualize the site's origin and purpose in the About section. There are posts that examine case studies in university settings in the Universities section. And there are exercises that our community use to think and operationalize the Unbound approach in the Workshops section.
About – The Why Behind Unbound
Dive deep into the thinking that powers Unbound. This section introduces:
- The conceptual pillars (e.g., openness, interdisciplinarity, global access)
- The Relevance Reset framework
- Stories that show what happens when universities become true community partners
- Insights on how knowledge can be liberated, localized, and activated for social transformation
Case Studies – The Real-World Examples from Higher Ed to Direct Change
The case studies section provide real-world historical examples where decoupling a research institution from its traditional norms has led to tremendous impact in our society. They summarize what worked, and what did not work.
Workshops – Test What’s Possible
These interactive exercises are immersive, simulated environments where you can experiment with future university models, not in theory, but in action and see how decisions influence predicted futures.
- Try out ideas like AI-guided learning journeys.
- Simulate change by adjusting variables and your role.
- See the effects of your decisions in different roles on impact.
Each workshop activity offers a an environment with tools and pathways that let you remix what a university could be.
Community – Engage With Others Who Care
This site also provides a forum to see what others are building in their communities and institutions. Members of the Unbound community can discuss posts, receive updates, share their own projects, and participate in global challenges. This is where theory becomes conversation, and conversation becomes movement.
Membership in Unbound is free and entitles you to content such as deep dives, scaffolded workshops, and beta software. Your participation and ideas support the community of scholars, practitioners, and leaders who are transforming education.
